About the Member:
The County of Lanark offers a full range of services for its citizens so that they can enjoy a high quality of life. The Public Works Department maintains the infrastructure of roads, bridges and property. Social Services oversee a variety of social programs. With the operation of Lanark Lodge, the County is actively in the business of Long-Term Care. The County level of government is also responsible for Planning Approvals for various land development activities. Ambulance Services and Emergency Services fall within the County’s jurisdiction as well, ensuring public safety needs are met. The Corporation is also developing a plan for County Trails, maintains a network of County Forests and sees Agricultural interests as a vital component of County life. An Accessibility Advisory Committee is working to eliminate barriers within Lanark County.

Lanark County is developing a five-step milestone Climate Action Plan (CAP) to reduce corporate and community greenhouse gas emissions. The Climate Action Plan is developed through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program.
The One Million Trees Program aims to plant one million trees in Lanark County over the next ten years in partnership with the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority (RVCA). Planting more trees will aid in reducing greenhouse gas emissions because trees are effective in capturing carbon, cleaning the air, and building healthier ecosystems.
Lanark County has banned plastic bags and straws as of July 1st, 2021. During the pandemic compliance is voluntary and a complete plastic bag and straw ban will align with the Federal Government’s single use plastic ban planned for the end of 2021. Lanark County launched a plastic reduction campaign that provides education and awareness about the negative effects of single use plastics. Lanark County also provides local businesses with bring your reusable bag (BYRB) window stickers to remind customers to bring their reusable bags when shopping and reduce plastic bag consumption.
