Kingston Celebrates Environmental Excellence at the 2024 Sustainable Kingston Awards

Kingston, ON — September 20, 2024 – The 2024 Sustainable Kingston Awards, held on September 18, 2024, at Springer Market Square in downtown Kingston, recognized individuals, businesses, and organizations in the Kingston community that have demonstrated exemplary efforts in promoting sustainability, environmental conservation, and climate action. Award winners included:

Sustainability Champion

Jerri Jerreat: for their leadership in growing the annual Youth Imagines the Future festival into a highly successful festival for climate-related writing and art.

Youth Sustainability Champion

Abbie Miolee: for their exemplary work as a volunteer and activist with organizations such as Little Forrest Kingston, Youth Imagine the Future, and Kingston Youth Climate Council.

Environmental Innovator Award

Bob Vasily, Canadian Wollastonite: for setting a new green standard for sustainable mine development, as recognized by the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines and researching wollastonite to improve plant health, improve water quality, mitigate toxic spills, clean up industrial brownfields, and reverse acid rain damage in forests and wetlands

Better Homes Kingston Award - Greatest Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction

Kyster Nanan: For installing a heat pump, furnace, attic insulation, and 12 new windows. These measures will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 14.8 tonnes per year (a 56% reduction). Over the life of the equipment installed, this will avoid an estimated 296 tonnes of greenhouse gases.

Better Homes Kingston Award - Most Heat Pumps installed

ECM Kingston Heat Pumps: For installing 31 electric heat pumps in 2024.
