Join us for the 2025 Kingston Climate Change Symposium, presented by the City of Kingston and Sustainable Kingston, and get ready to be inspired by our remarkable lineup of speakers.
Our keynote address will be delivered by Autumn Peltier, an Indigenous Rights & Water activist whose journey for justice has made waves around the globe. Ali Hassan, the dynamic and engaging host of CBC's Laugh out Loud and moderator of Canada Reads, will once again return as our event host. The full speaker lineup, including panelists, is to be determined.
Under the theme "Rooted in Action: Empowering Youth to Build a Sustainable Future," the 2025 Symposium is set to be an inspiring event highlighting youth-led climate action, bringing together passionate young leaders, environmental advocates, educators and community members for engaging dialogue on climate solutions driven by youth.
During breaks and after the symposium, you'll also have the chance to connect with local environmental groups and city leaders at our small exhibit located at the Grand Theatre.
This signature event is all about sparking action, showcasing the latest progress in community-driven climate projects, enhancing our local community connections and nurturing new ones.

We can lose a lot of heat (think energy and money) through our attics. Many are poorly insulated. In the third session of this workshop series, we will do a quick re-cap of the previous two sessions and then dive in (or jump?) to attic energy upgrades work, taking a tiered approach for retrofits and their associated costs.

In order to save energy and save money, we need to know where we use energy and spend money. Gather the data, do the research and get it done! Part 1 of this four-part workshop series will get our feet wet with a little bit of building science to help you better understand how to make your home (house, apartment or condo) more efficient and comfortable. We will look at a tiered approach to home energy efficiency improvements starting with $0 changes and moving through some low-cost changes up to larger ticket items.

Sustainable Kingston, with support from community and institutional partners, is thrilled to announce the Commuter Challenge is returning to Kingston this June.
Held June 4-10, the Commuter Challenge is an annual, national campaign designed to
encourage Canadians to walk, cycle, carpool/ride-share, take transit and telecommute. It
coincides with Kingston Cycling Week, an event Sustainable Kingston is also supporting.
Sustainable Kingston wants to challenge people in Kingston who currently commute by car to ‘test drive’ active transportation or transit for one week.
To sign up your workplace:
1. Choose a workplace ambassador.
2. Register your workplace at commuterchallenge.ca.
3. Encourage your colleagues to register under your workplace/organization profile
on commuterchallenge.ca.
4. From June 4 to 10, log your sustainable commute on commuterchallenge.ca.
Your colleagues do the same on their own.
“There are so many great reasons to bike, walk or take transit to school or work.” Explains Geoff Hendry, COO of Sustainable Kingston. “In addition to being one of the most impactful things you can do to address the climate crisis, you’ll save money and feel healthier.”
In 2022, Kingston Commuter Challenge’s 288 participants logged 152,039 KM of sustainable
commuting. This avoided 8,929 KG’s of C02 emissions, saved 4,072 litres of fuel, and burned
673,682 calories.
