Join us May 24th for Sustainable Kingston’s First Annual Evening of Recognition and the inaugural presentation of the Sustainable Leadership Awards!

The second of the 5 Sustainable Leadership Award’s is Sustainable Kingston’s Organization of the Year. This award will be presented to the organization which has best incorporated one or more of Sustainable Kingston’s Six Priority Areas into its operations.

This year the Kingston Community nominated 18 organizations! Each of which is leading the way in making Kingston a more livable and resilient city! Keep reading to learn more about the nominees.


The Nominees:

The National Farmers Union Local 316:

Union Local 316 is dedicated to the creation of a healthy local food system in the Kingston Area. The Union has been nominated for Food Security, Climate Action & Environmental Stewardship.

KEYS Job Center:

KEYS Job Center is Kingston's hub for employment services and mentoring. KEYS has been nominated for Sense of Community & Economic Prosperity

École Élémentaire Publique Madeleine-de-Roybon:

This local school practices sustainability at multiple levels, engaging staff, students, and family in sustainability initiatives. This innovative school has been nominated for Sense of Community, Climate Action & Environmental Stewardship.

Kingston Community Health Centres:

Serving Kingston for over 28 years the Kingston Community Health Centres supports those in need across Kingston and works to address systemic barriers to health and well-being. The organization has been nominated for Sense of Community & Economic Prosperity.

Root Radical CSA:

Committed to community based agriculture for over 10 years, Root Radical produces an incredible abundance of local, organic food for its members. This incredible market garden has been nominated for Food Security, Environmental Stewardship & Sense of Community.

Tri-Art Manufacturing:

As a local manufacturer of paints and Hi-Fi equipment, Tri-Art has committed itself to sustainability. For innovative manufacturing and community involvement, Tri-Art has been nominated for Environmental Stewardship, Climate Action & Sense of Community.

Providence Care:

Providence Care is a health care leader in Kingston. By integrating wise building design with respectful caregiving it has created an environmentally and socially conscious space. Providence Care has been nominated for Environmental Stewardship, Climate Action & Sense of Community.

Red Squirrel Conservation:

Red Squirrel is a local non-profit dedicated to bringing energy and water conservation projects and knowledge to the residents of Kingston. The organization has been nominated for Environmental Stewardship & Climate Action.

Skeleton Park Arts Festival:

Run by volunteers, the Skeleton Park Arts Festival combines environmental awareness with community building activities. The group has been nominated for Sense of Community

The Sanctuary:

The Sanctuary is an innovative co-working space, supporting entrepreneurs and building community. This exceptional space has been nominated for Sense of Community & Economic Prosperity.

Moksha Yoga Kingston:

Moksha Yoga Kingston has embedded environmental consciousness into its day to day operations and its growing community of practitioners. The studio has been nominated for Sense of Community, Environmental Stewardship & Climate Action.

The St. Lawrence College Green Team:

The SLC Green Team has been a guiding force in St. Lawrence College’s growing portfolio of sustainability projects. The student-led initiative has been nominated for Environmental Stewardship & Climate Action.

Go Green Baby:

As a small local business Go Green Baby provides environmentally responsible products and community for new families in Kingston. They have been nominated for Environmental Stewardship and Sense of Community.

Winter Green Renewable Energy Co-op:

Winter Green is a local renewable energy co-operative which helps facilitate community energy projects. It has been nominated for Climate Action, Environmental Stewardship & Economic Prosperity.

Sisters of Providence Seed Sanctuary:

Part of the historical Sisters of Providence, the Seed Sanctuary is working to preserve heirloom seed varieties in Kingston. It has been nominated for its work on Food Security & Environmental Stewardship.

Loving Spoonful:

Loving Spoonful is a community non-profit that works to address issues surrounding food, equality, environmental health, and community well-being. Using food as a driver for positive social change the organization has been nominated for Food Security and Economic Prosperity.

Kingston Area Seed Savers Initiative:

A community-based organization focused on creating a flourish seed-saving community in the area. It has been nominated for its work on Environmental Stewardship & Food Security.


Each of these organizations deserves recognition for their work advancing Sustainable Kingston's Six Priority Areas. Thanks to their commitment Kingston continues to become a more livable and resilient city!
