Want to participate in more community clean-up initiatives?

Environmentally minded not-for-profit organization from Toronto, A Greener Future, announced the return of their flagship program, Love Your Lake. The annual program, which first launched in 2016, will bring 100 waterfront clean-ups to communities across Ontario beginning on May 10, 2017 in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Following the kick-off clean-up in Niagara-on-the-Lake, the tour will continue east over the course of the summer, making stops in St. Catherines, Lincoln, Grimsby, Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga, Toronto, Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, Clarington, Courtice, Newcastle, Port Hope, Cobourg, Brighton, Trenton, Belleville, Wellington, Bath, Amherstview, and will commence in Kingston on Canada Day, July 1.

Last year, the program resulted in over 75,000 pieces of litter being collected—including everything from commonly found items such as cigarette butts, food wrappers, and water bottles to more unusual items like clothing, sports equipment, and even unsafe pill bottles and syringes.

The public is invited to get involved by registering for a clean-up in their area. Participation is free and equipment will be provided. To get involved, please register here.

The clean-up will take place Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Lake Ontario Park from 9 am to 11 am.
